This morning on my way to work, I happened to be listening to the radio. The DJ (for a good reason) was spelling the word ‘prosperity’ and I noticed that it was *almost* like the words typewriter or repertory or troupe. In the last three, you only need the top row of the US qwerty keyboard to type them. For prosperity, all but the S is on the top row.
I thought maybe a good puzzle would be to think of words that are like that and see if people can come up with them based on three clues: the letter that’s not on the top row, the number of letters total in the word, and a vague hint as to what the word might be. Naturally grepping a dictionary is not allowed.
Here are some with the letter M:
8 letters, ‘first showing’
9 letters, boundary
6 letters, judge
6 letters, fallen rock
Another way you might clue the words is by saying the position of the letter but not the hint. For example:
8 letters, C is the seventh
7 letters, H is the 5th
8 letters, X is the 2nd
6 letters, K is the 3rd
If you give these a shot, let me know which form you find more enjoyable.
