So, is this license plate a comment on the car, or a comment on the driver?

Early adopter? Who me? I’ve been hearing about Twitter and I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m at mmusante if you’re interested. Update frequency will be extremely low.

At first, you might think that this says “Bwnk of XIMCRI(X) socks”, but you’d be mistaken. The hastily scrawled message and the cellphone camera lens do not do the message justice.

I can’t imagine the level of hate, which must indeed be of such a white-hot intensity as to make ordinary hate seem like deep love, that causes the author to forget about all the language’s imaginative and colorful expletives. He or, as we must carefully consider, she wrote this in a rage so great, that the best word the infuriated brain was able to muster from the depths of its misfiring neurons was “sucks”.

In full, it reads “BAnk of AMeRICA SuCkS”

OK, so I wanted to upgrade to Gallery 2 from Gallery 1.4. Easy, right? They even provide a step-by-step process for it.

Gallery 2 requires the latest php. OK, so let me go install that… Oops, looks like my ISP said it needs to uninstall php 4.1 first. OK, let me uninstall that… Oops, looks like Webalizer (which I never use anyway) is dependent on php. OK, let me uninstall that… OK, good. Now uninstall php 4.1. Oops, looks like phpMyAdmin is dependent on php. Argh. Uninstall uninstall uninstall… OK, now uninstall php 4.1. Success!

Install php 5: success! Install gallery 2: success! Migrate Gallery 1 to gallery 2: abject failure!

Yikes: looks like gallery 1 needs php 4 and gallery 2 needs php 5, but I can’t have both php versions installed at the same time. Now what? Moreover, no one can see my photos right now.

Uninstall php 5: success. Install php 4: success. Check to see if gallery 1 still works: it does. Phew!

A-ha, looks like gallery 1′s got an update. I’m running 1.4.1, but there’s a 1.5.5. OK, let’s try that out. My ISP doesn’t have a ‘control panel’ option for 1.5.5, so let’s do it by hand. Download tar file to local disk. Upload tar file to website. Log into website. Back up album (just in case). Untar 1.5.5 on top of 1.4.1. Does it still work? Yep! Configure configure configure.

Now, will this work with php 5? One way to find out. Uninstall php 4: success. Install php 5: success. Try out gallery 1.5.5: success!

Next step will be to migrate to gallery 2.
